If you have priced PicoSure laser in Hong Kong, you know the number. DR REBORN advertises HKD 13,080 per session. Some clinics quote HKD 15,000. A few quote HKD 18,000 for the same machine.

At Vigor Dongguan, the same treatment is HKD 3,240 to 8,640 mid-tier, HKD 430 at the deepest group-buy promotional floor. That is a 65 to 95 percent gap.

The first question every experienced skincare buyer asks: what is different? Three things are. One thing is not. Here is the honest breakdown.

What is NOT different

The machine.

PicoSure is a brand. Cynosure manufactures the machine. Every clinic that uses a PicoSure runs the same hardware. A PicoSure in HK and a PicoSure in Dongguan are physically the same device, with the same calibration, generating the same picosecond pulses at the same wavelengths.

This is the part that most clients do not realise. The brand-name machine is a fixed factor. The variability is in what surrounds it.

What IS different

1. Commercial rent

A typical HK Central or Causeway Bay medical-aesthetic clinic pays HKD 200,000 to 400,000 per month in rent. The same square footage in Dongguan is HKD 30,000 to 80,000 per month.

That difference, spread across the patient base, accounts for around 25 to 35 percent of the price gap. Not nothing, but not the whole story either.

2. Marketing and customer acquisition

Hong Kong medical aesthetic clinics spend heavily on customer acquisition: MTR advertising, taxi-back ads, Google Ads at HKD 60 per click, social media spend.

The lifetime value of a HK clinic customer is high enough to justify HKD 800 to HKD 1,200 in acquisition cost per new client. That cost is embedded in every treatment price.

Dongguan clinics, including Vigor, spend a fraction of this on marketing. The customer acquisition cost is HKD 100 to 300 per new client. Spread across treatments, that is another 15 to 25 percent of the gap.

3. Pricing strategy and customer behaviour

This is the part most write-ups miss.

HK clinics price for the chase-the-LTV game. They take a HKD 4,000 to 6,000 promotional rate (and lose money or break even on first visits) to acquire customers, then earn back via packages, repeat visits, and upgrade paths. The HKD 13,080 listed PicoSure price is rarely the price anyone pays first-time.

Dongguan clinics, including Vigor, do not do this game. The price you see is the price you pay. Margins on each session are lower, but operational complexity is lower too. Different model, different price.

What you should ask yourself

Is the HKD 10,000 you save per PicoSure session better spent on something else?

If the answer is yes, the choice is clear. If you would prefer the convenience of a Central appointment to a half-day in Dongguan, the choice is also clear. Both are reasonable.

What is not reasonable: paying HKD 13,080 because you assume it must be better. It is the same machine.

One real caveat

Technician training matters. The PicoSure machine is identical, but how the technician sets the parameters and how they read your skin response matters.

Vigor uses Taiwan-trained protocols, which are top-tier internationally. Our Lichen branch has been operating since 2016 with 9-plus years of PicoSure experience. The technicians are not first-time operators.

If you are doing PicoSure for the first time anywhere, ask about technician experience regardless of clinic. That is the legitimate variable. The machine is not.

Bottom line

PicoSure in Hong Kong: HKD 13,080 standard, premium real estate, premium marketing, premium service-design (parking, lounge, etc.).

PicoSure in Dongguan at Vigor: HKD 3,240 to 8,640 mid-tier, same FDA-approved machine, Taiwan-trained protocol, 9-plus years operating experience, less expensive office environment.

Both reasonable. Different value propositions. The question is which one matches what you actually want.
